Paccon Logistics would like to notify all clients of extensive ongoing delays being experienced in the dehire of empty containers.

Traditionally, empty containers are directed by the shipping lines to “Empty Container Parks (ECP’s)”,which impose a timeslot allocation to regulate the arrival of empty containers. However, many ECP’s have inadequate operating hours and are not allocating sufficient slots per truck arrival zone to cater for the demand. This can result in additional container demurrage charges being incurred at the ECP.

There is an increasing use of alternative dehire locations, primarily DP World Logistics Parks 1 and 2 and containers may be re-allocated into these facilities at short notice. In order to manage this task, cartage companies may become a staging hub for the empties, where these cannot be taken directly to the ECP from your unpack premises. This will incur additional costs in the handling of containers.

We are advised that various Industry Associations are seeking engagement with the shipping lines and container parks to achieve much-needed reform. We will advise when further information is available.
